A/N: Hey, I'm Lis and I just found this comm. after the cancellation of this show (figures) which I've watched on and off for years. I thought it would be nice to put a piece of writing out there that popped into my brain just the other day. I don't care if the show is cancelled -- this pairing is amazing and needs more fanfic for it. Just sayin' :P

Allison still never slept a night without dreams connected to the dead. Neither did she ever stop trying to break the case or stop pursing her career for the law.

And yet, though it seemed like nothing had changed, so much had. Her life partner, the man that she made three beautiful girls with; the one that dealt with her midnight ghost callings; the one that never believed she was crazy…well, ok, well he never thought her gift was crazy. She, on the other hand, was always a bit crazy. But that’s what he adored about her.

That man was now gone.

It took months for her to get into her new life – being a single mother and full time law student. The stress of the two became overwhelming at times. And when she lied to sleep, she hoped and prayed that he would enter her dreams like he had the night he died. But he never came. It was always about other ghost on other cases. Not for her own case of loneliness.

So on a slightly warm March day in 2015, a day that didn’t have any significance other than it being her only day off, something was different. Now of course, she’s always seen ghosts, wherever she went, but this one was much, much different. And cuter too.

“You know, you’re still looking as good as ever”

“What the – “ Her breath hitched. There he was. Joe. Right in front her. A ghost, yes, but one that she could see, admire, breath in….and maybe even touch.

“Joe. It’s you.”

“Hi.”

“You finally came, I-I.” Her words caught up in her throat. Her first instinct was to hug the life out of him (ha!) but she was unsure. So she ended up looking nuts, arms half up and smiling wilding in the middle of the kitchen.

“You can touch me. I’ll be here for a little while”

Allison didn’t take any time to hesitate before engulfing him in her arms. He felt so real. From the messy hair on top of his head to smell of his aftershave.

When they finally separated, she had to ask, “Why now?”

“’Because…I thought a surprise would be nice. And besides, I wanted to make sure that your career was not put on hold simply because I came back and you’d wait until my next return. I waited until the timing was right. And now look – your living your dream. I’m so proud of you.”

Allison tried so hard to keep composer. “Does this mean that now you’ll make frequent house calls?” Allison laughed, slightly chocking up and trying not to cry from the sight and touch of her love.

“If all your dead friends can, why can’t I?” Joe smiled, which lead to him getting another embrace and a longing kiss.

When they finally pulled apart, he breathed deeply and looked her straight in the eyes, “But promise me that me coming back doesn’t interfere with your future.”

“If I need to do more of my homework to feel this again, I’ll do anything and everything” Another kiss. Another embrace. She didn’t care if he was there for only a few minutes. She treasured all those moments until the next time she could hold him in her arms around him.

Some ghosts are horrible and deserve to rot in the grave. Others were killed accidently and need their lives to be redeemed and their killers discovered. And one ghost, well, she was head over heels for.
